Tim Cross accepts the 2009 U13 Girls YPSL Championship trophy from Andy Sones, League Comissioner.

The Adirondack Lynx U13 team comprised of players from throughout the Capital Region won the 2009 Youth Premier Soccer League championship. Cali Palumbo (East Greenbush S.C.)and Cassidy Driscoll (Saratoga S.C.)scored as the Lynx defeated the hosting Long Island Fury 2-1.

The Lynx championship team is made up of players from East Greenbush (Katia Rupprecht, Shaye Alviene, Chelsea Wojeskie, Brooke Wojeskie, Alysha Cross, Ashley Teliska, Shannon Doyle, Cali Palumbo, Nicole Meddaugh, and Somer Connolly), Hoosick Falls (Mackenzie Hinchliffe), Saratoga (Cassidy Driscoll, Emily Wickert and Julie Granger), Schuylerville (Jordyn Rouselle and Missy McCarthy)and South Glens Falls (Carly Weller and Shannon Curley).

As part of the Adirondack Lynx Summer Soccer School the U13 team competed in the Youth Premier Soccer League (www.youthpremiersoccerleague.com). The league is the youth affiliate to the WPSL, one of the top amateur women's leagues in the world. The YPSL is comprised of teams from Maine to Maryland. This is the second year the Adirondack Lynx has entered teams to play in the league. In 2008 the Lynx had teams at the U12, U14 and U16 Level. This year they had teams at the U11, U13, and U15 level.

The Adirondack Lynx finished the 2009 regular season 7-3-2 in order to gain the right to play in the championship game. The Championship match was held in Long Island as part of the WPSL National Championship Weekend (WWW.WPSL.info). Shannon Doyle took MVP honors away from the match with her outstanding saves in goal throughout the match.

With the season concluding Alysha Cross and Sommer Connolly were named to All League by the YPSL. Cross was also all YPSL last year. She has an uncanny ability to win balls in the midfield and control the pace of a match. This season she had 4 goals and 8 assists. Connolly helped hold down the midfield and defense. She played every minute of every game and what she lacked in experience she made up for in heart and desire. Honorable mention went to Ashley Teliska and Carly Weller for their ability to play for the team! When not on the field they would step in to play goalkeeper as needed.

The team has created such a strong bond that a majority of the players have decided to stay together this year to play as a U14 team under the Lynx Black Watch Merger.
